Korea Forecasts Sharp Increase in 2006 Component Procurement

According to a survey carried out by the Korea Electronic Association, Korean electronics makers' component procurement will reach 26.5 trillion won in 2006, an increase of 994.3 billion won over the previous year. Of the amount, Samsung ranks first with 14.4 trillion won, compared with 14.2 trillion won in 2005. LG Electronics' procurement amounts to 9.7 trillion won, higher than 9.2 trillion won in 2005. Procurement of Daewoo Electronics, Trigem Computer, and Etronics is expected to reach 1.5 trillion, 372 billion, and 62.2 billion won, respectively. By category, handset components account for 61.7% of the total procurement, equivalent to 16.8 trillion won, followed by TV components for 3.7 billion won and PC components for 1.4 trillion won. In addition, domestic procurement accounts for 61.8% for 16.1 trillion won while foreign procurement accounts for 38.2%, about 10 trillion won.
